death valley lava domes and desert gold

death valley ca 2005
Fuji GX617 panorama camera - In a land where soil and rock temperatures reach 190 degrees and less than 2 inches of annual rain fall, Desert Gold seeds survived and flourished with the record rains of 2004/2005 season. These flowers track the sun through out the day turning their heads to follow light. The yellow tinted landscape constantly changes its hues and intensity, depending on the position of the sun and your direction of viewing. The Amargosa Range rises along the eastern edge of the valley floor where the Earth's crust has been stretched apart allowing lava to ooze up through the fractured rock.
