full moon at dawn over anza borrego

anza borrego ca 1998

Hearing about a sudden early bloom in Anza Borrego Park, I arranged a quick 3-day car trip to catch it before it dried up. Being in the lower elevation desert, these wildflowers are notorious for burning up in a few days if hot weather takes hold.

This is early at dawn just as a rare blanket of desert fog is lifting to expose the Sand Verbena flowers. The first pink rays of sunlight are seen lighting the tops of the San Ysidro Mnts with a setting full moon.
