western antelope valley 1991
Early in California's history, Spanish soldiers returned to Europe to tell of encounters with a "land of fire". Their stories described hills and valleys ablaze with orange as far as the eye could see. Some described it as a lava of flowers.
Looking southward onto the Antelope Valley this flow of California Poppies drains into the valley floor. Hints of blue mark patches of Globe Gilia on the hillsides.
